What is a good knitting project for a beginner adult – other than scarf, hat and mittens?

I'm going to a "strike camp" to learn knitting, and I have to take the project materials together. I have lots of scarves, hats and mittens from my knitting sisters. What could I do that is easy? I found a cute dishcloth pattern. Would it be simple enough for a beginner?

Since they are small, dish is great for learning to knit (or learn new stitch patterns).
